Project Trillions: The Cost of a Global Sustainable Power System by 2040.

OUR TEAM AND MISSION

Over the course of the 2020 summer, nine students from Queen’s University banded together amid a world-altering pandemic with the goal of enacting positive change. We were both tethered by our passion for environmental advocacy and our membership in the Queen’s Commerce and Engineering Environmental Conference (CEEC). The COVID-19 outbreak offered us an unprecedented window for meaningful education. The focus on this project was not due to an inherent increase in climate awareness because of stay-home orders, but due to the decline in industrial energy demand. This decline provides an opportunity to change the course of energy demand and generation as we venture into an era of innovation. Our mission was to act at this juncture and use our knowledge and passion to calculate the capital investment required to shift away from fossil fuels by 2040. Although we lack the expert knowledge in this field, we are confident
that this estimate will offer a starting point for policymakers and corporate decision-makers to move toward clean energies in the long-term.
